TO CLEAR THINGS UP: This is a PUBLIC fountain in NYC outside of David Geffen Hall (which is a famous music hall). I go there all the time and theyโre fine with you sitting on the fountain and taking photos. The biggest concern would be that she stood on the fountain, which is dangerous. Other than that, no they were not โtrespassingโ on private property or smth. Itโs a public area which is allowed to take photos of.

Honestly just donโt be afraid to ask permission, if youโre sincere and polite then usually your answer will be yes. I wanted to film at an abandoned building that was being torn down and i filmed it from the outside of the demo crews fencing. A security guard noticed and asked what i was doing and proceeded to let me film inside the building and out as long as it was under 15 minutes. I got some really cool shots of a piece of history because i had asked nicely and was straight to the point.
