that and they tore kaido down. he fought big mom for 3 days, fought all of Oden’s samurai, fought Zoro, Law, Momo, the island itself, & yamato. then fought luffy 2-3 times. he had been fighting for 3.5-4 days straight

I think everyone can agree that Luffy awakening has devil fruit was the thing that was needed for him to win. Before that, he was annihilated with a single hit. After he unlocked advanced armament haki, He was able to hold his own against Kaito for a while. Once Kaido got drunk, everything started to go sideways for Luffy. The fact that Luffy was able to throw Kaido around like ragdoll and basically turn the fight into Kaido’s public humiliation shows how strong devil fruit awakenings can be
