Thanks for using actual high speed rail map proposals and not that absurd “map” that’s usually tossed around Twitter

Just tell the pentagon it is a national security risk not to have high speed rail. It will be done by the end of the year.

The people who say trains can never work in the US are typically the people who never been on a train in their lives

If I learned one thing from American history, it's that with enough whiskey and dynamite, Irishmen can do anything.

People probably had similar thoughts when the us interstate system was first being proposed and brainstormed, and we were able to do just that. And when you consider the usa's history with rail, it's definitely possible to, if not fully build out a national high speed rail network, atleast in highly populated/visited areas like the north east, texas, the west coast, and parts of the southeast/midwest backed by plenty of regional rail services.

"It's impossible to build something that big! It's why we instead build and maintain an equally as large road infrastructure!"

American NIMBYs: "The US is too big for high speed rail"
British NIMBYs: "The UK is too small for high speed rail"
🤷‍♂

China has the same size as the US yet that didn't stop it from developing high speed rail.

The interstate act was ironic given that most funds were used for highways in cities

Hear me out: the only way nationalization could work is if it's part of the military budget, since the interstates were built to carry military equipment, and the railways also carry military equipment.

Americans: Can we have a fast train? Other countries do it.
Government: Sure citizens, let me just check in with the Airline companies
Airline companies: ☹️
Government: Sorry Americans

Wasn't expecting you to just whip out Slam like that, but it was a good choice. Gives me some nostalgia, tbh. Listened to so much Pendulum in high school.

In 1956 whatever environmental review studies that took place weren’t nearly as extensive as they are today, and I’d also imagine that litigation brought on by private land-owners wasn’t nearly as rampant and contentious as it is today .. There’s a REASON all the out-of-control freeway building in Los Angeles eventually hit a solid concrete wall

Ironically I believe that the best way for the US to get high speed rail is if Siemens and Alstom lobbied the living hell out of congress to do it

Even low-speed rail that is actually good would be great, especially since many connections simply dont exist or have one train at like 7am.
