A large Thai traditional canvas painting from the studio of Sakorn Sopha (สาคร โสภา) at the Wangna (วังหน้า) Arts Gallery depicting Himaphan (หิมพาน), a mythical forest located in the Himalayas, below the heavens of the gods. It is often mentioned in Buddhist literature and inhabited by both real and mythical animals. Fabulous creatures include the Kinnari (กินรี), Geson Singh (เกสรสิงห์), Sang Praeng (สางแปรง), Sakun Kraison (สกุณไกรสร), Kraison Paksah (ไกรสรปักษา), Singha (สิงห์), Toh (โต), Kraison Kaawih (ไกรสรคาวี), Kraison Naga (ไกรสรนาคา), Kraison Mangkon (ไกรสรมังกร), Naag (นาค), Kunchon Warih (กุญชรวารี), Warih Kunchon (วารีกุญชร), Bantu Rachasih (บัณฑุราชสีห์), Kraison Rachasih (ไกรสรราชสีห์), Bantu Suramareukin (บัณฑุสุรมฤคินทร์), and many more. The painting also depicts other figures from Thai folklore, such as reusi (ฤาษี), i.e. 'hermites'. These sages are known for their magical abilities and are typically depicted with tiger fur attire and often with facial hair. They are here portrayed tending to the nariphon (นารีพล), a fabulous tree that yields fruits in the shape of fairy-like beings, who offer erotic pleasure. These pixies grow from this tree's branches, ready to be picked off. It is found in Himaphan Forest and its name means 'women fruits', as its fruits resemble 16-year-old girls with golden eyes, delicate features, and fragrant bodies. The canvas painting combines the use of powder paint and acrylic as base layers, which are then complemented by a final application of luxurious gold leaf to enhance its visual appeal and provide a stunning finishing touch.
