I was always told as a kid I was allergic. As an adult a doctor told me he thought I wasn’t and prescribed it for me. Turns out, I am allergic…. So please do be careful.

Had a reaction to Penicillin as a kid, so was told I was allergic to it. It wasn’t until a couple years ago when I was dying of sepsis that they said “screw it, we have to try everything” and gave it to me. Turns out I’m not allergic.

Of course that’s not always going to be the case for everyone. Some allergies get worse as you age (from experience).

I became allergic to penicillin at 45. I ended up in A&E.
I was also taught biology by Alexander Flemmings granddaughter. Best teacher ever.

Always double check though. I had an allergic reaction to Septra as a baby. As an adult I took it again, after one dose I had a severe rash all over my body.

Yes! I just had it removed from my allergies! Doing this opened up a larger variety of options for any antibiotic needed. I never even had a reaction but my mom said that she did so therefore I probably was. That was not the case with me, as I've taken Amoxicillian multiple times since, without any issue whatsoever 😊

I learned I'm not when an ER Dr convinced me to test it in the controlled environment since I didn't know what the reaction was as my mom told me is was allergic. I'm do glad because I was given cipro so much instead it actually was hurting my body.

Can you clarify why?

I actually just found out by accident that I'm not allergic to penicillin!
Thing is we're not sure if our was something that happened when I was a baby or my mom just lied! My older sister didn't remember me being allergic, and my mom was a chronic lier, so.... 😅

I am allergic to penicillin, but I am allergic to athysromiasin and I had a really bad reaction when I was two and threw up immediately after taking it, which is an ambulance call if that ever happens again, so sometimes believe your parents

After finding out about it, I mentioned it to my doctor. She sounded hesitant to do anything about it. Should I see an allergist and get tested for it? The last time I needed an antibiotic the doc seemed kind of stumped because I'm allergic to tetracycline and supposedly penicillin.

I had a rash all over my body that looked like chicken pox when I was a teenager from amoxicillin. Could this allergy have gone away/not be a true allergic reaction? It did not itch at all.

When I was a kid, we were told by my pediatrician that I might be allergic to penicillin, not worth trying it. Then a few years ago, I realized I'd taken amoxicillin (without problems) as an adult, not knowing it was related to penicillin. I discussed this with a doctor last year, and he said no, I'm not allergic to penicillin. I've taken off of my medical records.

I'm allergic to most antibiotics bc of ethylenediamine dihydrochloride & coconut & derivative allergies. My meds have to be compounded.

I had/have an allergy to amoxicillin as a kid, they gave it to me intravenously when I had pneumonia in the hospital as an adult with no issues. But I’m definitely allergic to clindamycin had a hive outbreak from that as an adult.
