The Alpenglow was announced by Alpine on October 13, 2022 at 9 a.m. through an image on the web. It was then presented on 17 October at the 2022 Paris Motor Show.
An updated fully-functional version of the Alpenglow, now named the Alpenglow Hy4, was unveiled on 13 May 2024 at the 2024 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps; it is described by Alpine as a "rolling lab designed as a racing car".

In its initial specification, the Alpenglow has a V8 engine running on a dihydrogen fuel cell designed by the British company Gibson Technology. This block develops a power of 880 hp.
