If you are not teaching your child conceptual math, you’re preparing them for the jobs of the 1950s 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We sort of got away with not truly teaching American kids math, but honestly if you look around at the science and technology careers, it’s no secret that American-educated people are unrepresented even here on American soil!

In the year 2050, our kids are looking at tough competition. And I don’t mean academics. I don’t see wealth in our country getting any better. I foresee our children needing the top education to get the top jobs in order to afford the basics. Look at the economy we’re in now - most of us feel like the American dream is no longer attainable. I’m not being pessimistic, but I’m going to make sure my children are prepared.

Don’t let your fear and lack of education limit your children. 10 years ago, when a lot of teachers were refusing to implement common core math, I leaned into it. I was teaching fifth grade, but I read the pre-K and kindergarten, then first grade curriculum. I was really good at math, but I really didn’t understand what they were talking about. By going back to a kindergarten level, it was very clear.

In fact, I recommend if you have children who struggle with math, go back to that kindergarten level of concepts, and it will become clear to them. They will start to think in a different way. Really, even if your child is good at math, if they learn math through memorization, I would caution you to go back and make sure they really have the concept down. I personally started by reading through the eureka math, pre-K and kindergarten curriculum. It’s free online. Just Google it. But I also think beast academy level 1 is an amazing place to start.
