From what I understand about Hinduism, there is a "supreme being" that is made up of all of existence itself, and we are a part of it as well. However, because it is so vast and complex, we are unable to understand it in its full form, and we define its parts as individual "gods" so that we can actually understand how the world works. Thus, whenever I think of a specific god, I think of it as "an entity that best allows humans to understand nature".

God is a concept that human mind is too weak to comprehend, so different nations consider God differently: some see the All-powerful force as many people, some as one omnipotent entity, some try to deny the existence of this infinite force, however such force is Universe itself. No one knows what or who God is, and we will never know until we die; but the fact that god usually takes a shape of a powerful man (as in human) is because people like to have close and familiar associations.

If there's more than one god then naturally they will be in constant conflict for eternity. It's just not logical

Far off topic but I find the Conan the barbarian mythos to be an interesting take on polytheistic cultures; ie. The greatest leaders/warriors left behind from a pre cataclysmic event are elevated to the status of god good in the new age

In Hinduism,

There was one consciousness known as Brahman which decided to split into multiple gods, humans and everything.

As such everything is one.
The one consciousness wanted to experience itself as many lives that's why it split.

In some mythologies, the gods aren't the top but the direct descent from bored primordial entities. Most of the gods revel against these parents due to differences in points of view. The takeaway is that the convention of different primordial powers would be stronger than one by itself. Then again, the primordial could unite bit for primal emotions wouldnt.

One thing I've recently learned is the difference Monotheism, whichis the belief in the existence of only one supreme deity (God) and Monolatry which is the belief in more than one deity but mainly worshiping of a single one. Although many sources and many Ironclad believers would and will fight me on this, I believe that is the main stem from which the Abrahamic Religions come from.

If you want to know more about that topic i highly recommend you to study islam because it's the only religion that offered an explanation or made it understandable and clear about why there's a lot of similarities between all beliefs on earth. Briefly because according to islam: the creator has sent a lot of prophets and messengers to humanity for teaching humans about worshipping creator, and about afterlife, morality's and laws
Some of the prophet's has been refused and disbelieved by their people
And some of the prophet's just a few people followed them
And Some of the prophet's has been accepted by their people so their messages has been followed for many generations
But their messages and beliefs have been distorted and changed over hundreds and thousands of years because of poor methods of transmission and preservation, people’s distortions, and the tendency of human nature toward paganism, so they start worshipping statues and thier royal family's as a mediator between them and the creator, of as a second level gods, and a bit by bit over hundreds and thousands of years they forget about the creator and directed all worship towards their mediators and second level gods
But after all there's still a remains of these ancient beliefs that makes similarities between eachother

For me Polytheism is the go to because it’s more ancient and respectful while christians and muslims all claim to be right and force their agendas to others ( mostly unwanted and unasked ) as polytheist i can simply accept that we all worship different Gods that suits our own needs in Religion. So worship who you want but keep it to yourself.

In Egypt they had individual churches for individual pantheons. then when churches failed they were demonized. Gods of war and weather became representations of plagues.

The oldest man had faith in a God. Where chimps and other animals just coasted through life, man had values, traditions, and beliefs that transcended all other life on this earth. Man is a creature of God because we’re the only creatures on earth that truly know him. Our minds may wonder but our hearts come home. Let that sink in. 🙏🏾

Side note, Judaism and by extension, Christianity and Islam also speaks of people held as Gods in ancient times, which would explain the “Gods” from Norse, Greek, Egyptian, Hindu, Japanese, etc. mythology. Even the Babylonian, Sumerian, Mesopotamia, etc. “Gods” are bound to this. These people were called the nephili

There are lesser “gods” if that is what you want to call them - but the truth is that there is one perfect Greater God that is beyond anything or anyone.
