5 shocking things about VAN LIVE in Japan 🇯🇵
1. Toll roads are EXPENSIVE
We were able to avoid all but one and it cost us $23 usd. Most expensive we've seen but depending on your destination, might be cheaper than trying to avoid them.
2. Dealing with trash
The biggest challenge we encountered with van life in Japan is where to throwaway your trash.
Best way we’ve found is to find a trash can at a rest area. Note SELECT rest areas have trash cans. It can be a bit of a search.
If anyone has suggestions on garbage disposal, please let us know in the comment section below!
3. Nice roads
The roads in Japan are insanely nice. They are smooth, well maintained, and it's rare to see a pothole. Our fears of driving around the Japanese countryside quickly melted away once we hit the road.
4. Abandoned homes
We saw SO MANY abandoned homes. Unfortunately this is a result of Japans shrinking population and their citizens desire to live in larger cities. Kind of sad but we probably would prefer to live in the city too.
5. Less police
This might just be the American in us but we barely saw any police while driving through the Kyushu countrysid
