So one common complaint I hear about Attack on Titans ending is that it was all for nothing. Well I disagree. See, the reasons as to why many deem the ending as ineffective is because of continued tensions between Eldia and the outside world and because of the conflicts that follow centuries later. Now although I understand these complaints, I also feel that those who make them completely miss the point of Attack on Titan’s narrative.

For starters, all Eren wanted was to secure a safe future for his friends so they can live long peaceful lives. And secondly, the ending of Attack on Titan wasn’t meant to be sunshine and rainbows. Instead it was supposed to be emblematic of our reality and highlight humans inability to stop the cycle of war. If we just look at WWI, WWII, Vietnam and many other examples, they show how humans often forget about their history and repeat it. And also how as humans we are inept to avoid conflict and fail to realize the true horrors of our actions. And this is what Iseyama and Attack on Titan was trying to get across.
