The Calciopoli Scandal, which erupted in 2006, was a major match-fixing scandal that shook Italian football. It involved several top Serie A clubs, including Juventus and AC Milan, and centred around the manipulation of refereeing assignments, meaning teams choosing certain referees for their matches for favourable results.
Key figures, including club officials and referees, were implicated in the scandal. But Juventus faced the harshest treatment. They were stripped of their 2005 and 2006 Serie A titles and relegated to Serie B for the 2006-07 season. Other clubs received point deductions and fines.
Further investigation showed evidence that Inter Milan and a few other clubs were also involved in this, but action wasn't taken on these clubs as a lot of time had passed since the scandal broke out.
Juventus took legal action against the Italian Football Association and Inter since the latter was awarded the 2005-06 Serie A title after Juventus were stripped of it because of the Calciopoli scandal.
However, in 2024, the Council of the State finally put an end to their appeals, and Juventus dropped the case.
