Day 90 of Open Field Organic Chili Peppers

Most national agricultural technology guidance agencies in Korea assert that it is impossible to cultivate organic chili peppers in open fields. This is because the eco-friendly pesticides available on the market are very expensive and not as effective. This belief is similar worldwide. As a chemistry major, I have spent decades addressing this issue and have achieved innovative results. This year, unfortunately, the growth of the chili peppers is not uniform due to wind damage. However, there are no aphids or thrips, which cause significant damage by spreading viruses. This is the first time I've had a crop without thrips!! Besides the initial fertilization, I do not apply additional fertilizers or use calcium supplements.

한국에서 농업기술 지도 국가기관 대부분은 노지에서 고추 유기재배는 불가능하다고 단정한다. 왜냐면 시판되는 친환경 농약들이 매우 비싸고 방제효과도
뒤떨어 지기 때문이다. 전세계 역시 이와 비슷하다. 화학을 전공한 나는 이런 문제를 해결하기 위해 수십년의 노력을 해왔고 혁신적인 결과를 만들어 냈다.
올해는 바람 피해로 고추 성장이 균일하지 못해 아쉽다. 바이러스를 매개하여 심각한 피해를 주는 진딧물과 총채벌레가 전무하다. 이렇게 총채벌레가 없는 농사는 나도 올해 처음이다!

About Youngsang Cho
Youngsang Cho is Organic Farmer. Cho learned Natural Farming from his father Hankyu Cho(Korea Natural Farming, KNF) who advocated environmental agriculture since the 1960s. Cho family has been organic farming for the third generation. Cho served in 706 special forces and graduated from Aju University (Bachelor, Chemistry) and Chungnam National Uni (Master, Horticulture). Cho has entered the Ph.D. course from the Department of Agricultural Biology at Chonbuk National University. Cho started organic agriculture in 1989. Through decades of practice and research, he created a new Ultra-Low-Cost organic agriculture system based on his father's farming and Asian traditional farming. He founded “JADAM” in 1991. In 2022, JADAM's membership exceeded 80,000.
