The hand pan is a great instrument for non musicians because it's in a set "key". The fact that this one has only 10 notes also helps simplify and prevent wrong notes. Pretty much any "wrong" note will still sound ok because it's still in the right key. A chromatic hand pan with 26 notes over two octaves would be tougher. A great solution for someone in a band would be to have several of these 10 note pans each in a different key. I don't have perfect pitch but I think this one is set to D minor pentatonic, 8 cents flat. Which would be in agreement with the organic tuning of A332. I think that's why it sounds so extra soothing.
