If that isn’t a stroke of brilliance by Mozeliak. For a front office that is petrified and risk adverse to signing FA pitching, they sure make absolute dog shit FA pitcher signings.
Mo - I am not a GM, but I know 2 things - great starting pitchers are expensive and you’re going to have to overpay for a difference maker.
What absolutely baffles me is that these are 2 guys Mozeliak should be forced to sign after making offers and whiffing on guys…..this coward doesn’t appear interested in entertaining offers to a tier 1 starter. It appears he’s skipping a step and settling on tier 3 guys instead of missing out on anyone.
I’ve been a fan of the Cardinals for 40 years and have spent enough money at Busch Stadium to buy a Ferrari. If this is the effort ownership is putting into fielding a competitive product, then I’m afraid Bill DeWitt will never get another penny out of me. I may be done.

Hey JD; Could there be a trade in the working for Mikolas? These signings might make more sense if Cards were going to make a trade for a top pitcher and had to give up bats and a starting pitcher in return so the trading partner could get a pitcher to flesh out their rotation. That’s the only way I see the signing of these 35+ year old pitchers making sense, unless you’re going to put Gibson in the bullpen…which I can’t see that happening. I’m trying to gather my thoughts on this. It’s a head scratcher though. There has to be more in the works that makes this fit. They now have spent $22M of there budget. If Mikolas goes in a trade they have that money back in the pot. IDK. I’m interested to hear your thoughts and the fans that follow you here.
