It reminds me of what my friend Tim said to me about his fencing hobby: noobs are weirdly good at handling pros, specifically because they donāt know enough about whatās going on to get thrown off by your feints and donāt know enough about your combos to act accordingly, which throws YOU off and puts you at the disadvantage! Beginnerās āluckā is real

I beat a friend at Smash once who had won several local Smash tourneys by button mashing. At first I thought he just let me win or managed to turn off that part of his brain for casual play but I think he actually went through a similar crisis because after that round he quite pointedly completely wiped the floor with me every other subsequent round.

Legit had something similar happen to me (though I was the other kid)
In college I was living with my sister and her boyfriend. He invited me to play some DragonBall FighterZ. I never played it before, but I have played a few fighting games like BlazeBlue before casually.
Took one look at the command list to understand the basics, and wiped the floor with him.
He never invited me to play ever again.
