Honestly, I agree. I've played a lot of fun games that have optional micro transactions, and I don't really mind them. If the game is fun and the micro transactions aren't forced down your throat, it's really not a problem. Hoyoverse games, Brawl stars, clash of clans, apex, and even bloons TD6 are all fun games that have micro transactions

I would argue that battle passes are predatory because you pay for something that demands you work for the items in the pass. They are designed to keep you coming back and progress because if you don't you lose the rest of the items in the pass. There are games that have passes you keep and progress even after the season ends, but the early days of battle passes were bad.

Transparency is also good for games as well. An example that comes to mind is final fantasy 14. If i remember right while yes you have to pay for the game, and or a subscription/buy play time they made is clear that us players when we subscribe or buy days to play, were paying for the servers. A good chunk of the money from the sub or days goes to the servers so we can keep playing

Destiny is a prime example of a game that stooped to the lowest of levels.
Back when it released I paid for it, I think it was 60$. What did we get? The red war campaign with a handful of strikes and PvP maps. Sure it wasnāt perfect but i was content. However they eventually invented the ācontent vaultā which removed the red war campaign and a couple of the strikes which is what we paid for. Then they made the game free. Essentially everyone that paid for the game got completely swindled. Now some the ānew contentā is more expensive than the original game. The micro transactions are the worst part. They spend so much time and money making all these sick looking cosmetics only to charge us 20$ for each one. I did a calculation a couple years back, to own every cosmetic in the store it would cost you just under 1k usd. Then there is the Witcher 3 crossover that made them a laughing sock. They made W3 themed cosmetics. When they first released them the W3 game was on sale and the whole game was cheaper than a single armor in destiny 2.

I be saying the same thing. Sadly a ton of people have self control and gambling issues.
I played Apex, R6 and Cod for a long time not spending money. Even in Gatcha games i save my resources and plan my pulls and will spend occasionally if i really like the character, often times ill go 2 or 3 months on the game without pulling cause im either not interested in the new characters or im saving for a specific one

I think the entire industry just needs a rework, its developers relying on publishers and massive companies who constantly screw them over. Just take the steam route and circumvent those corpos who are to blame for basically every negative in the industry.
I honestly think developers should be able to put their games out without another hand in the cookie jar taking everything.

I think a game that does microtransactions very well is FF14. There are plenty of outfits, emotes, and mounts in the game itself, everything being earnable, but they have the option to buy items like past event items, or some outfits from side characters in the story. You dont have to spend money on it cause there are plenty on items that look just as good or even better in the game already, but the option is there if anything ever truly catches your eye.

I'd say the absolute worst offender is Blizzard Activision. Diablo 4 released as an absolute garbage game at $80 (Only good thing was the story) We are now into the first expansion and there is still absolutely no new earnable cosmetics in the game. Everything is a micro transaction. The free battle pass gear always makes you look like a peasant. Oh and a side note, it is also the first Diablo game to NOT have Diablo in it....

Exercising restraint is the key.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with battlepaces, and mircrotransactions, its the manner in which they are implemented.
