World leaders arrived in Lima, Peru, for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, November 14, 2024. Leaders from Thailand, Taiwan, Australia, Vietnam, Malaysia and China will attend the summit. U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to arrive in Peru late Wednesday.

Bilateral meetings were being held Wednesday in the capital ahead of a leaders’ summit bringing together major economies along the Pacific Rim.

Biden is scheduled to spend Friday and Saturday in Lima with leaders of the APEC forum, made up of 21 member economies that promote free trade in the region.

Uncertainties about future U.S. policy will complicate efforts to reach an agenda on issues of global concern such as trade, poverty and debt alleviation, climate change, sustainable development and green energy.
