It sounds like a sax and a clarinet had a child with horn in the mix

Yoooo I also saw you play this live in Birmingham!!! The Avatar the Last Airbender show was awesome and this instrument was actually my favorite part of the show! I finally looked up all the instruments you were listed playing and found this!! This is it lol. Now I am more educated thanks to you, hope you and everyone else enjoyed putting on the show! πŸ’œ

I play the hichiriki, the Japanese relative of the duduk, and I can definitely see the similarities. Anyways, it's a beautiful instrument.

I saw you perform with avatar in concert. You and the guzheng player were the stars of the show

Easily my favourite instrument outside of the standard orchestral instruments. It's probably also one of the most well-known instruments outside of the western classical & pop instruments, thanks to its extensive use in film & television soundtracks. Often used to represent something exotic, especially in things with a sort of "middle eastern" vibe. My favourite is probably its use in Avatar, where it is digitally altered to sound somewhat more like a brass instrument, and used to represent the in-world instrument of the "tsungi horn". It has such a beautiful melancholic timbre.

This is awesome! I hope you can do more double-reed instruments: guanzi, hichiriki, p'iri, shehnai, rackett, sarrusophone, etc. Do you own all the instruments that you've been highlighting or do you sometimes borrow an instrument just for the video?

I have this instrument! :D
It's so nice to hear people who can actually play it. I just can't get a good tone on it at all, and my fingers just aren't used to opening the toneholes in that order πŸ˜…. Also, my scale tones are all over the place, it's really irritating, I can't play in tune in the slightest. Are you using mainly changes in embouchure, or half-fingerings to get the tones you need? I know embouchure plays a big part, but how much does it need to vary between different notes
