Growing up to 85 feet, these giants dwarfed our 28ft Sailboat. This was our first real passage (5 days) and this was such a special moment for us. Something we'll never forget! #shorts

Amazing! When I was out in the Atlantic, nearly 30yrs ago, I had a scary whale moment. It was quite a calm night, early hours of the morning and I was on watch. Which consisted of sitting in the cockpit, reading a book, checking the Aries was steering OK and having a good look round for ships every 10 minutes or so. She was an old classic boat with not much free board. All of a sudden I heard something and, right next to the boat this whale broke the surface and blew!! It seemed enormous and I nearly crapped myself! I shouted something like "Holy shit!". It all lasted a few seconds. I don't remember much about it, apart from being very surprised. The whale disappeared and I've never been that close to one again. I often wonder if my shout frightened the whale.

It looks like a Brydes Whale. They're very curious and swim around your boat for hours. They pose absolutely no threat at all. Just sit and enjoy. Plainly it enjoyed your vibrations. Cool hey?
