The Crane Kick is a variation of the Jumping Front Kick. The jumping is a feint to make the opponent think you’ll kick with the left. It works, I’ve actually used it before.

It works. One of the greatest karate user in the UFC used the crane kick. Not the full arm up and pose but he used the movement from the crane kick. Fake the leg and use the other to strike.

The crane kick is a fictionalized version of the jumping front kick. The jumping front kick is a real technique and it works. The part that is unrealistic is the arm positioning.
