One doctor I went to, back in the 90s, told me that he never saw men who worked construction in his office. His point was supposedly about how tough they were.
When I had no insurance, & 3 different chronic pain conditions, I went to a clinic where they prescribed pain meds you could have filled at only one pharmacy. They didn’t take insurance, and we went once a month. For much less than the price of insurance, we got enough relief to keep doing our jobs.
That’s where those men were. What Peterson doesn’t understand is that the story of these working class men is a story of pain, if they’ve done it long enough. The people who are actually in power could create a universal healthcare system, but the shareholders who own them won’t have it. It’s greed, on the part of people of Peterson’s class, and above, that most harms these working men he’s so worried about.
I know he’s in Canada, and they have universal healthcare, but so many people in the States follow him, that I think he should be aware of the true threats to men’s very humanity that exist in the US.
They could use a bit more money for all that heroic work, too. Maybe even pay them like heroes. They’d appreciate that more than this maudlin melodrama.

As one of the men he is referring too I just want to point out that we don’t want any specially treatment for what we do, just some respect and a little less looking down on would be great.
