"Land Ho!” was adapted from a modified poem of Jim’s, and Robby came up with the lick and drop tuning. In 2023, Robby told LOUDER SOUND that both Jim’s father and grandfather were naval men, and the song goes together with “Ship of Fools.” Both tracks involve seafaring and life on the ocean.
“I always thought he wrote it about his own grandfather, but you’d have to ask him." -Robby Krieger

It’s songs like this that come from Jim’s heart, and he’s just naturally crooning…his voice sounds as steady as a ship at sea, banging against the waves with ease. It makes me miss him the most when I hear songs like this, you can tell he loved his family and was hurt by his father’s attitude. My dad, who’s 91, has a lot of that old school way of “accountability” for his kids that ultimately just comes off as nasty and dismissive. The way his dad wrote that letter to him, telling him to get a real job and give up singing. That’s something my old man has done.
Can you imagine a world without this guy’s poetry and musical talent? Let alone just some of the things he has merely said in an interview?
