Every time I watch Sabine I'm reminded how little I know. It's good to know we have serious people like her asking the serious questions.

I'd love to see a full-length video on Koide's formula and the units thing. Such interesting topics, and I've never heard you discuss them before!

My take is that there's so much we don't know it's overwhelming, so units of measure are our way of taking information and breaking it down to comprehensible bits we can make sense of!

Units are just human tools for understanding and/or working with values. Sabine's the BEST.

I find the 5th mystery regarding units (or the dimensions of physical quantities) a very insightful one to pick out. If you take a look at Isaac Newton’s own writings, you’ll find that he didn’t use units for most his calculations but instead a ratio of some unknown quantity versus some other known fixed quantity of the same type as the first e.g. mass of A : mass of B instead of using kilograms as the standard measure. So I think units are just a human choice of a standard, a benchmark, a reference, a baseline to which all other measures are compared against. It’s where mathematics ends and physics begins or where the world of the abstract concepts created in the human mind transitions to the world of the concrete objects of reality which exists external to our thinking.

Sabine, I absolutely love your content. As a woman who loves math and science and never got an opportunity to go to university and study them, I am so happy when I watch your videos. I sit around and daydream that I can get the education to explore these mysteries. 😃😃

I like your logic and critical view of what is considered mainstream science today. Keep it up 👍

I find number 4 particularly interesting: in some way it's not reality itself having a time direction, but rather it's measuring (and in particular perceiving) that requires an accumulation of information, which is in some way related to entropy, so we can only measure things in that order corresponding to increasing entropy. In this sense the whole physics, relying on the possibility of measurement, describes reality as having an orientation in time, which is not real in itself, but it's the only way reality can be measured and perceived.

You need to make a video with your best guesses or hopes in answer.

Some day, maybe I'll be good enough at physics to answer some of these questions, but for now, it's probably best I stick to software engineering 😊

I’m an old retired scientist (octogenarian). What do you think about time being simply the metric of all matter relative to itself? For example, if I could magically stop all matter from moving, time would stop. If I could magically make all matter reverse it’s movement, time would go backwards. If all matter were crushed into a singularity without dimension, time nor matter would exist. However, if a Big Bang were to occur, matter and time would instantly exist. “Something” and “Nothing” are the same thing in two different states like water and ice.

3. Some would argue that simply the act of observation itself is a measurement, and can be done without 'units'.
