I had salmonella when I was in China. I had to go to the hospital. I was so dehydrated from the constant simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea I honestly thought I was going to die. Thankfully my friend helped me get to the hospital quickly when I realized I needed help, and after a full day in a private hospital room being rehydrated with several bags of saline, some other clear greensh liquid, and a mystery injection I felt as good as new. I was at the "expensive" hospital and the total bill was the equivalent of $100. I can only imagine that it it had happened to me in America I'd be bankrupt.
