The zinc /bromine secondary cell housed in a "Tic Tac" holder. Wax to be added to prevent bromine vapor loss. The electrodes are zinc and grafoil (current collector). The zinc sulfate monohydrate / sodium bromide (2M in each) electrolyte is in halloysite clay which is nanotubular. The open voltage was 1.84 V . The cell is powering a small DC motor with good power output. Such cells are being developed by my students for data acquisition and performance evaluation. We will see if the addition of a small amount of "vanillin" will enhance zinc electrode stability. We also want to see if zinc dendrites form with these small bench-scale cells. Facile construction and suitable for student involvement.
