Dawn is really the best. I use it in a sprayer to soft wash houses along with some other non toxic things and it doesn't kill plants or burn skin/lungs

Dawn is amazing. Literally washes oil off devastated wildlife and did the same with my cat who fell in our sump pump and was covered in nasty oily copper water. Will always buy dawn. Now there’s a new reason to!

It is the surfactant nature of the soap that does this, it suffocates the wasps.
So, if you know what AFFF is, aqueous film forming foam, it’s used as a shipboard firefighting agent.
Much the same way that will cut off the oxygen supply to a fire, the dawn dish soap will prevent oxygen from getting into the spiracles that the wasps breathe through.
