I know the builder that designed that tensegrity structure, and there are two things of note. 1, whatever company you bought the knock-off from almost certainly did not have their blessing to sell it. This is a big problem in the Lego building community, with talented builders having their designs stolen and sold by bootleggers. 2. I have built that exact tensegrity structure, and it works perfectly when using official Lego bricks because the tolerances on real Lego are less than 1% of a single micron at their worst, and 1/500 of a micron at their best. Chinese knock-off companies cannot match that precision.

First one is not a Foucaultâs pendulum, but a harmonograph. Its purpose is indeed for the tip to draw patterns in the sand, pseudo-lissajous patterns, to be precise.
This is likely a scammy rebrand of such a pendulum by people who didnât really understand what it does and thought âhey, must be a Foucault thing, right?â

The large pendulum in the first few seconds is from the Richmond science museum, a museum built over an old train station. They also have a cool robot that draws on a window near the entrance along side an event workshop, bee hive, and other science based areas.
I don't know why I said all that but hopefully this inspires someone to visit.

What happened with the first one is they saw the real one and heard what it does and stuff and quickly built a product that is supposed to mimic the real thing but they didn't do any research to know about the size and specs for it to work correctly. I guess they assumed you could scale it down and whatnot and it would be fine lol

The Fucoults pendulum draws a pattern based on the coriolis effect. Basicalls the difference in linear rotational speed from changing lines of latitude will cause the pendulum to deflect as it moves north to south. That deflection can be measured as an angle, applied to a simpke transform and it gets you your line of latitude.
Its a cool way to utalise the 15â°/hr spin of the earth and show its a sphere spinning

I wonder if the tensegrity structure would be better with actual Lego, they have insanely low tolerances on their bricks
