한국의 현신규 박사가 리기다소나무와 테에다소나무의 우수한 성질을 인공적으로 교잡해서 개량한 소나무이다.
두 종 모두 외국에서 들여온 도입종이다.
리기다소나무는 추위에 잘 견딜 뿐 아니라 메마른 땅에서 잘 자라는 성질이 있으며, 테에다소나무는 재질이 뛰어나다.
높이 30m, 지름 1m까지 자란다.
나무의 겉표면은 매우 거칠고 결이 곧게 뻗는다.
심재는 붉은빛을 띤 갈색이고 변재는 노란빛을 띤 흰색이며 심재와 변재가 육안으로도 뚜렷이 나뉜다.
나이테도 뚜렷하게 나타난다.
