So my cat used to throw up all the time and at first we thought (after consulting with the vet) it was just hair balls and treated it accordingly. Then after some time (and another vet visit) we thought it was him eating too quickly. He would throw up sometimes multiple times a day for years like that.
Then I approached the vet again since I got tired of changing my sheets all the time from kitty barf and they suggested to try a hypoallergenic food and see if that helped. All of a sudden, the barfing stopped completely, besides the occasional hair ball. It turns out he was just allergic to his food! I felt so bad for making him eat something that made him so sick for so long.
I’m not saying that is what is happening to your kitty but it’s something to keep in the back of your mind incase it continues.

I can't stop crying seeing all these videos of sweet babies. My sweet 10 yo boy Braveheart passed away last night. My 4 yo daughter and I were out running errands & once we got home she wanted to take her shoes off. So I told her that was fine and to just make sure she placed them in the closet. Once she did she went to find my cat and then I heard her say "mommy, Braveheart isn't moving". I came into my room, and I can only assume he just wanted to be as close to me when he took his last breath bc he was on my side of the bed where he would be 99.9% of the time to lay down and cuddle with me, and passed away. I just wish I had been home to let him know how much I loved, still love, him and to let him know it was okay and I was there. Just absolutely broke my heart, especially bc my 4 yo had found him

Hey, I know that you probably have a bunch of other things you're trying and don't want advice from strangers on the internet. But I also had this issue with my cats, and what I did really helped. I add a raw egg, wet food, a little bit of bone broth, and some water cats need a ton of liquid anyway and usually won't drink from still water. So, all the extra liquid and protein really helps. I've had way less hairballs, practically none in the last few months it still happens occasionally, but it's way less than it was. I hope this helps!

Only relying on a brush is your problem. I would use a fine toothed metal comb attached to a handle. It caught far more shedding hair. It gave a comfortable scratch effect to the cat's skin as I combed with light pressure. Once all loose hairs were removed for the day, I'd comb against the hair growth. More would come free. Then I'd comb in the regular direction to smooth the coat down. On light days, It just took a few swipes of the comb. On heavy seasonal shed days, the comb would fill up within an inch of the stroke. I'd lift, pull the hair bunch off to toss in a small trash bucket, then comb another inch....keep doing this until you're able to comb all of the way through without collecting loose hair. A brush just pushes some loose hair back into the coat, to be licked up later by the cat cleaning itself.
Use very light and short strokes to acclimate your cat to the comb. My roommate's cat hated it at first. With patience, it became the cat's favorite time of day. We put down a cheap foot-wipe rug on the kitchen floor as the combing location. We made it the same place every single time. If I went to that spot with the comb, the cat would join me. Sometimes, if the cat was shedding badly, or if it just wanted extra attention, it would sit on that rug and meow at me to bring the comb over.😂

I didnt know this existed, thank you almighty algorithm and bless you nhonsworld!!!! I have 5 kitties, 4 from the same litter and an unrelated senior. My senior has hairball yaks on average 3x a week or more and like you I'm doing all I can with food and brushing and it's still not enough... I'm not usually influenced to buy things but I think I'm going to need this
