I honestly think if you get down lower you give your shot more foreground, just enough of the grass to give your shot some depth… imo

Ah yes… creative endeavours with a right and wrong answer…

Sorry, but I’d still move down and take it from a lower angle. Possibly even find somewhere to use the grass as a frame.
If I could get far enough around I’d also try using the tree as a frame to shoot through.
I’d use your suggestion of stepping closer, but If I I had a wider lens I’d use that…

i would definitely not cut out the grass! the yellow color of the grass contrasts nicely with the blue of the water, and that adds a lot to the picture. without the grass, it just looks like any other picture of the water.

pretty sure that there is no "correct" for images. it's all subjective. maybe increase the fov because you wanna capture everything to show your family.
