In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.
And deeper than all of that, the Gospel of Jesus Christ orients my personal worldview and sense of security, peace, hope, and love www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist/believe

Agree wholeheartedly.
It's uncomfortable and overwhelming.

I am having to process a lot of big emotions right now and this is so true! It made me giggle out loud! 😂

Learning how to process my uncomfortable emotions is probably the hardest thing I've ever done (or...am doing) in my life.

One of the most helpful things that I learned from you is that when I take my negative thoughts and emotions with a sense of humor, they don't seem so overwhelming. Thank you so much for the brilliant content😀

I got the “How We Feel” app and it says to track how you are feeling 4 times a day… I track how I’m feeling 4 times an hour AND each emotion is two emotions in one 😂

As someone with C-PTSD emotional dysregulation, this metaphor is pretty accurate.

You sure got that right! That last image has definitely been my emotions for a VERY LONG time, but I've been slowly getting some clarity and relief, and much needed peace!

Wow, I've often sat staring at emotions and couldn't name them. I thought I was just bad at recognizing them. Now I see it's that I can't separate them in those times, they're all massed together.

So true, and yes it is funny. Being a GenX I can say we never were allowed to have touchy feely emotions. I feel like our coping mechanism is broke.

I had an angel in a CBT therapist who shared with me on my last Day that not all humsns can find the stillness in our thoughts to filter and process emotions in a helpful way. Yet she admitted she could not recall the Therapy to Help me further. Being a feeler first is hard even though I get to help others. x!
