Just keep the wound moist and covered. Can you pack it with small piece of moist gauze ( normal saline wrung out). Then cover with dry and secure with a stocking or sock with some stretch to keep it in place. As long as it looks nice and pinkish red like that itās good. Iād change it 1-2 x day. Good luck. Do not blame you at all. Iāll pray for him ā¤

You have to think about his quality of life. Thats the number one thing if he can live a comfortable lifeā¦itās a hard decision but most dogs do suffer from this condition- this doesnāt look like a minor case either. Also People donāt consider dogs having nerve pain, but they have nerves and pain receptors just like people do. Itās not about having little faith in owners itās understanding the severity of the condition and something like this could have him living a sufferable life. The spine is where everything is connected. I couldnāt imagine the pressure on his nerves along his spine if not formed properly.

I had a dog that had a tumor about the size of a large lemon removed from under his tail. The vet left some anchor stitches on the outside of the wound. 4 on each side. Twice a day I would remove the bandages, clean it, put meds and a new bandage on it then with a type of surgical string that looked like extra large dental floss, I would lace up the wound. As it healed, I would cut and remove the anchor stitches until it was all healed up.
Worked great to close a big wound without enough skin to cover it with. Takes a little longer to heal, but it works! Good luck with your baby!š

So is there any way you could use those betterfly type bandaids that you see in those emergency 1st aid kits. That you can pull the little laces just enough to start getting it close. Just be creatively careful to dress the open wound part so it doesnāt get caught in the adhesive or lacing of the butterfly bandaid.

I donāt know if this might help or not but when I was young, I had a cut something like that my mother she took my area and she took tape and she taped it from one side and stretching the skin, pulling it towards the other side eventually, the skin formed Across it. They do skin graphs now but itās expensive. Itās really expensive to do but they might be able to do something like that if you want to put the cost into it. But theyāre not telling that, but Iām not a vet. I know and not tell you what to do but this is what my mother did with me, I know it hurt like blankety-blank but eventually it did grow together. just how you did it hair pinching the skin together is what my mother did to me and she put tape anchor it from one side and put it across to the other and like three different places and it grew together, but it took a while and then it split apart then she would just like whine it out a little bit, and it just kept growing and growing until it formed its own skin, your skin cells will what was told me they took from me for a test they were doing. Iām written up in medical books.

I donāt understand why the mother dog canāt heal it that just really floors me because they have that certain thing inside their bodies that can heal wounds I remember when I used to have a sore on my knee where I fell when I was young and mama told me to let the dog lick it lick whichever dog we had I canāt remember but let him lick itand itāll get better

This is Spina Bifida, I am massaging the wound, it was tightening from the long day. You are not here. He is not the one crying. He is not suffering or in painā¦he doesnāt feel anything back there as of now. Please stop assuming you know whatās best when you arenāt in the situation. Quality of life is not tied to whether you have limbs or not. Heās been fighting and that speaks volumes when they fight as newborn puppies. Thank you for everyone whoās been so understandingš
