The Mercator Projection was made so that sailors could navigate with more ease, it would preserve the shapes of the countries with more distortion near the poles (the things look taller).

The Mercator map being made for sailors makes sense. When projecting a sphere onto a flat surface you have to sacrifice something for accuracy. In this case, the angles are accurate but the sizes are not. However it is also true that it was probably biased.

The reason the Mercator map exists is to fit all countries in one map and for humans to see in a blink of an eye. Which makes it unrealistic, because the world is a globe not a map. I don’t care what flat earthers think, but I’m just telling the truth.

And it isn't a "lie", it WAS used for sailors. It was critical for sailors. It just happened to ALSO help make certain countries look more powerful, so they continued using it.

bruh, the mercator map wasn’t made to make european countries look stronger. it’s literally just a mathematical side effect when portraying a spherical object as a flat image.
