Its worth noting that genuine bakelite cameos from the mid 20th century can actually be very valuable in themselves. They were also carved, not molded, even though they're made of a (type of) plastic. Its modern cheaply produced ones to watch out for.

My mom is just like "if it's fake oh well it looks cool and you like it so well get it" like my family has alot of fake stuff and we admit it's fake we don't care if it's fake so long as we like it we keep it😊

I love this bloke's mix of jewelry, history, antiques, grammar, and of course, accuracy, distinction, and precision.

My mother has wanted a real Cameo for ages and now I know what to look for! Also, I JUST taught my son that myth about commas and now I am going to have to correct my mistake.

It’s interesting to see commas so widely misunderstood in English. I’m from Quebec, we speak French as the native language, and anyone who even barely listens will HAVE to learn how to use commas. The one I “like” (I actually disliked learning about it but it’s actually a great example) the most is to isolate sub-sentences. Basically, if you can take one part of the sentence and switch it around with another part of the sentence, the comma goes in-between those two parts.

Today, I went to the park. I went to the park today. (It’s not perfect but it illustrates how it’s used, at least in French).

There are many more uses but I’ve learned most of them intuitively, and I don’t actually use them all the time. Like always having a comma before a “but” in French. I don’t have time for that 😂

I knew close to nothing about cameos until you explained what to look out for to spot a fake. Thank you!

I know this channel will be huge one day. He's an amazing story teller. If he read audio books I'd listen to them ALL.

I’m dyslexic and I’ve never understood where to put commas. They confuse me so much. It makes sense why I don’t understand them if I don’t actually know when they’re meant to be used 😂

Man, you're like the Alton Brown of internet video culture, except for antique certification. You have a new fan and subscriber in me.

The art of carving Cameos is ancient. They style and quality of the cameo will depend on the skill of the artist. My mother bought two helmet shells that were carved cameos from a roadside stall in Pompeii, Italy. They were pretty, obviously made by someone who was learning the skill. But they were pretty and inexpensive, a nice souvenir of our trip. On the same trip I purchased a beautiful and delicately cared broach/pendant cameo that was carved by a master from a shop that specialized in cameo jewelry. It was a.girl in 3/4 profile with flowing hair on a shell that had a brown background rather than the traditional pink shell. It was much more expensive and meant to become an heirloom piece.
