I realized after uploading that some of the text was cut off. Sorry about that. Here is the full pattern.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
Foundation
Chain stitch for desired height of hat + 2ch for turning to the next row
Example is 38ch + 2ch for turning stitch
(40 ch total for 11âtall)
Row 1
1 hdc in every ch, ch 2 at the end of the row to turn to next row
Row 2
1 hdc in the back loop of every stitch (going into the back loop creates the ribbed effect),
ch 2 to turn at the end of row
*Repeat the directions for row 2 until height of peace is long enough to around head
Example is 46 roww Or 17.5â long.
I would recommend making the hat 3â smaller than the head diameter to accommodate for stretch.
Finishing
Once desired length is reached slip stitch to join the last row to the 1 st row of foundation chains. This will change the rectangle into a tube.
Cut yarn leaving 10-12â tale.
Use darning needle to sew in and out of the top of edge and pull string to gather the top edge of the hat as tightly as possible. Knot to secure.
Sew in all loose yarn and ENJOY!
