We heat with only wood. Our bill went up $100. We called. They said it’s cold out and we are using more power to keep the house warm. We told them we only have a wood heater. They said oh..... well, it’s cold out so you’re using more electricity. Oh my goodness. No.... I’m not. I’m using lights!

I’ve done these exact same things, I live in a one bedroom apartment In Florida . I only use my AC at night only between 82 to 84. When I leave for work in the morning, I turn the AC completely off for the day and when I come home, I turn it on and it runs for an hour or so to get to my range and then it may kick on once or twice through the night and that’s it. I have a box fan blowing on me for a Crossbreeze while I sleep. I also don’t use the dryer and I turned off my hot water heater, take room temperature showers. My bill ranges anywhere between $60- $75. I make really good money, but I don’t want to pay for creature comforts. I like keeping my money.

Having retired from a power producer in the Tennessee Valley region, I gotta say that there's 'a a difference between the power company and power distributors. The distributors send your bill and collect your money. The power companies just produce and sell the electricity to the distributors. I don't know how much the distributors jack up the price. But the actual price of electricity changes during the day. In the summer, the cost is highest during the day. During winter, the price is highest at night. A lot of time the power companies have to eat some of the price because they sell to the distributors at a set rate. Also, the cost of all the emmision controls that have had to be added to power plants has increased the price. So blame a tree hugger. Also if you're gonna gripe, gripe to the distributors. Y'all have a good day!

Norwich public utilities in Connecticut absolute crooks. They actually ask for deposits every time you’re late on a bills and tell you that it’s just in case you have a hard time paying a bill in the future but then if you can’t pay your next bill they just shut you off. Do they use ANY of that deposit or the several they have taken over the years you’ve been using them NOPE. Then they say you get that money back when you close your account. But you never close you account because even if you move they make you transfer you account and bill to the next residence 😂. Total scu
