I am fluent in Dutch and English but how fun you pointed this out. I never actually noticed that! I guess because they are used in such different contexts!
There’s also words that are pronounced differently but written the same. In English when referring to unofficial words, we call it slang. But in Dutch the word for snake is slang. Same spelling, different pronunciation!
I currently am trying to learn Portuguese and notice that I tend to either pronounce it more Spanish or more French. Especially when they use ‘de’. I’m used to pronouncing it in French, Spanish, Italian and even Dutch as with a D the way you use in English. But in Portuguese it sounds more like ge/je rather than de.
Languages are amazing!
