Ah, Santa Cruz & the Monterey Bay - Here are the smooth sounds at dusk along the coast - East Cliff in Santa Cruz is quiet. During daylight there are a lot of folks, people with excited dogs, happy joggers and surfers carrying their surfboards as if they were checking in to work, the waves du jour. But as dark clouds limit the remaining light our sense of hearing comes alive - listen, can you hear the crashing echoing below Opal Cliffs. Listen to the rhythm. Not many folks walk here at night in the winter. It is an absolutely wonderful experience. You must stroll and watch the surf and color of the sky shift into night.

If you’ve never sailed offshore come walk at night and imagine - the shore of California is loud and pounding, you can almost imagine what it feels like to be underfoot of deep powerful swells but as you sail farther offshore the crashing waves are no longer audible. You might see stars above as we cruise further from light pollution and your eyes adjust, so do your sea legs. Suddenly the sounds of the rhythmic lapping on the hull gives way of a hypnotic dance, and you follow the lead of nature's course.
Your senses awake as the light from the shore disappears. You are free. It's a great feeling of well-being and wholeness.

Here in Monterey Bay we can still see across the bay. But if you close your eyes and listen. Imagine you're alone and what dreams are possible.
