My local Gamestop let me buy a copy of Rogue Leader almost a week before I I could actually buy a Gamecube.
The way I stared at that little disk and read every inch of the manual that week. I confirmed at least 3 times that nothing happened if I put that disk in my PC or CD player trays.
A different time.

Me and my brother were late to the halo game, but my uncle gave us his xbox in like 06 or 07, and me and my brother played through the campain together and were just amazed.
Then after we finished we were just in awe at the end. The graphics and gameplay of halo were nothing like we've ever experienced. I was like 9 maybe and he was 4yrs younger and we had only experienced the GBA at rhe time (also from my uncle).
I don't remember when, but my mom took us to a best buy and i saw a used copy of halo 2 just as we were passing by and i immediately begged my mom to let me use birthday money to buy it. my brother was super hyped too cause we had no idea a second one even existed yet (we didnt really use a computer all that much being that young lol. Just some educational games on discs).
But man, were those some of the best memories i have with my brother. Now im twenty-somethin and still game and thoroughly enjoy playing halo still. Sadly sold the xbox, but got a 360 after that using birthday money accumulated over the years and the rest is history.

I was a 20 year old computer science student when this launched. We had just got past 9/11 β- the worst day of my generation's life. When this hit, it was the breath of fresh air we all needed for the times. A truly monumental period for console gaming.
Now, in my 40s, I can honestly say that, yes, you just had to be there to understand how big of a game-changer this was.
A few years later, when Halo 2 was coming, you couldn't believe the hype it generated. Hell, thinking back, it was bigger than the N64 launch, and about on-par with the launch of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.
We don't see shit like that anymore, sadly.

No mtx.
Full game on the disc.
Fully working game right out the box.
No day one patches.
The good old days.
Yup.
You had to be there.
