This segment is from Chicago Med, Season 3, Episode 5.
The elderly man who played Santa Claus passed away, and his family dealt with the procedures at a Chicago hospital. They discovered that the hospital bill for two days totaled $16,000. The hospital administrator communicated with the relevant departments to resolve the issue. Although it damaged their reputation, they ultimately helped the man's family.

Chicago Med, Season 3,Its unique fast-paced plot and exploration of human nature deeply moved me. Iā€™ll be updating regularly, and I hope everyone enjoys it!

Get an itemized bill for each visit. Check if anything seems suspicious. If you or anyone in your family/friends that are certified medical coders or auditors, have them take a peek. While a coder can't formally do anything about it, they know their resources and where to research.
I went to the ER for cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve w/ pain radiating down my arm. I had just moved to a new state and no insurance yet or PCP yet. They did not do any imaging or labs. He did not even examine my neck or test the strength of my extremities. He checked my lungs because this was in the height of COVID. That was the extent of my physical exam. He gave me 2 scripts- for muscle relaxer and pain. How did he know I truly had that diagnosis? I told him I have it. While I was asking him questions, he left the room. The nurse came in and said I was all set. WTH? I told her if I was a drug addict, this was the easiest score ever.
I told you all that because they charged me for a Level-IV ER exam. Level-V was the highest at the time. I was a former coder, so I have no idea if it's changed since then. I disputed my bill. From my point of view, the Dr deliberately upcoded. Though I didn't have proof, I used the correct terminology in my response and threatened to forward all my info to the attorney general and CMS (Centers for Medicare/Medicaid). If CMS gets wind of any possible fraud, a full blown audit of their entire billing could possibly result. Any hospitals/medical facility's nightmare. They removed my bill. They didn't adjust it, it just went away.

When health care is taken over by corporate greed, that is when people are forced to die when they could have been saved.

It's insane how hospitals can still charge more than you could ever repay to not even help you.

The fact that a hospital will charge you $400 for walking in and doing your vitals while you wait 4 hours to never be seen is insane!!! The medical field needs to be reevaluated in America!! We claim weā€™re the greatest but weā€™re one of the most expensive countries to get medical care

We get charged for the housekeeper to clean and sterilize the room????
That is a charge that should NOT be on the bill!! Same thing for new parents being charged for Skin-to -Skin contact with their preemie!!! It's ridiculous what the hospital charges their patients!!
It's called Medical Greed!!

50 years ago I checked my own hospital bills before I left. There were So many things on the bills for items and proceedures I never recieved.
And it's 50 years WORSE now.
Every hospital makes up their own things. No regulation on ANYTHING šŸ˜”ā€¼ļø
THIS HAS TO CHANGEā€¼ļøā€¼

"You wanna hand out freebies?"
Yes.
That's how healthcare should be everywhere in the world.

maintain and sterilize the room, that is the hospitals responsibility to cover the costs of that. not the patient

Thereā€™s a special place in hell reserved for hospital presidents and board members who charge these outrageous fees. Theyā€™re utterly heartless, focused solely on profits, with no regard for the people who depend on their care. All they care about is padding their own pockets, splurging on yet another luxury home or a flashy new car, despite already having more than enough

I had two miscarriages, neither of them had me in the hospital over night.
Both bills were over 35k.
That's 70k debt and I never stayed over night.

America. Is. Shit.

Why would a hospital hold on to a dead body for a day or two? Usually they call a funeral home as soon as possible within the same day.

This is why i dont pay medical bills. They can bill insurance then send me to collections but they are never gonna get a dime.

Iā€™ve seen my grandfather perish in hospital and the aftermath was devastating on both my mother and grandmother. The idea a fat hospital bill would have accompanied it wouldā€™ve put enough stress to land another relative in hospital again. Obscene.

Ask for an itemized bill, request an appointment with the accounting department. If you negotiate well, you can get it rlto somewhere between $9,000 and $10,000. AFTER your insurance has paid their share, if applicable.
