Regardless of the team, they both looked flawless! We were so very proud of Both Teams!

The pilot featured in this video is Boss Gil Rud, the Flight Leader for the Blue Angels from 1986 through 1988. The flyover referenced took place during Liberty Weekend in July of 1986, a four-day event to celebrate the centenary of the Statue of Liberty.

I remember watching thisl on TV. The most impressive thing I remember was when a British Harriet (sp) jump jet stopped in front of the Statue of Liberty hovering and bowed the nose in respect

Crazy to see the trade centers. I was in 4th grade when they went down. I miss seeing them in the skyline.

I was 16 years old when this happened and lived right outside of the city and thought it was so cool to see them together

Seeing older clips of NYC with the trade centers still there is almost surreal.

There was an airshow at NAS Pensacola between 69-73 where the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds both performed and both used the F-4 Phantom II. Each gave their own performance, they did not perform together as one show.

Right over the Twin Towers got me in the feels...
Just 15 years later they would be gone.

I remember that weekend.
Tons of Naval ships were moored all along the West Side Highway, as well as the Brooklyn waterfront where the piers used to be.
I was a 6 year old boy, Mom and Dad took my sister and I down to Brooklyn Heights to see it all, and we were climbing all over the Missouri (I think) when these Lads roared overhead. Mets won the Series that year too!
Great time to be raised up in.

I would love to have seen both The USN Blue Angels and The USAF Thunderbirds. I was raised in Jacksonville Florida i remember as a boy scout camping on NAS Jax on base before 9-11 and we would always go watch the Air show, then they did the Jacksonville Beach Air and Sea show it was amazing i have always loved fighter jets. NAS Jax was the home of The Blue Angels, I grew up with them using the F/A18 Hornets i still am amazed at the skill and precision y'all have.

I was at the pier with my family that day. My employer Procter & Gamble reserved for anyone who wanted to attend with family. Awesome experience.
