This is an Estes kit #2001. It is a 1/100 scale model of the iconic Saturn V launch vehicle. I've had this kit for over 30 years, but didn't have the confidence to build and launch it until now. Altogether this rocket took 5 weeks to build. The engine used was a D12-3. Shortly after apogee I rotated my phone camera 90 degrees to keep the two descending sections in view, so apologies that it's disorienting. The lower section has two parachutes, but only one opened. Fortunately the rocket was recovered with no damage. If you look carefully shortly after ejection you will see the last quarter moon sweep by. It isn't the greatest camera recording, but I hope you enjoy the video.

This is some great globe proof. It’s clearly shows the earth spinning 90 degrees from start to finish.

Me and my best friend use to launch rockets some 50 years ago, Brian had an Apollo rocket and used the “E” engines, big 42” silk parachute. We launched from the school yard. It went so high we lost track of it, but saw it coming down pretty far away. The adventure continued picking up the launch pad and all the stuff, getting on our bikes and chasing down the rocket. Missed all the eucalyptus trees, houses and everything else, landed in a field. That was a good day!

That was awesome brother when I was little had a friend his uncle was a big time fan of model rockets he had a Saturn 5 rocket and it used like 6or 7 engines for this rocket never seen it fly but from what he told us he had a little steal dish that the rocket would rest in had black powered in it and would ignite all engines at once

Perfect launch! My friends and I used to launch Estes rockets back in the mid-1970s. We had so much fun.

I built one in the early 1970s, but never had the guts to launch it. Somewhere along the line it lost the emergency rocket on top of the capsule. I contacted Estes and they sent me a new one that worked perfectly. The restored rocket now it sits next to one I built from Legos a couple years back.

Just like I remember. I always liked building and flying Estes and Centuri model rockets and planes. Thanks for sharing.

The only time I saw one of these models lift off a pad was at a rocket meet some 50+ years ago. It got maybe 10 feet off the ground then crashed in pieces before the chutes popped out. I think what happened was the [inexperienced] owner used wrong sized engines thinking it would be safer than sending it too high. OOPS! Good to see the Saturn V once again.

I'll never forget when I was a kid the Houston Astros shooting one of those off in the infield of the Astrodome before the game. Got my first model rocket set that Christmas! Thanks for sharing.

That was one hell of a beautiful launch. Looked to be a perfect day for it. Congrats on a successful recovery.

One day she'll fly once more. 😉

"It's a lovely lift off" as Pete Conrad said after Apollo 12 lifted off. Only his Saturn V was struck by lightning!!. Nice job building the model!!

Nice, straight boost, well built.
A very “nominal” mission.

Just launched Big Bertha this past weekend. My brother had one over 40 yrs ago and I never forgot it. I’ve had my kids interested in model rocketry for over a decade now. Fun, fun hobby for sure

A kid in 8th grade had one of these and brought it in for science class. It burned up without leaving the launch pad. The teacher, Mr. Coca, went into hysterics laughing

Nice model. Great fun. Can't wait to relaunch my childhood fun when my grandkids get a bit older. I never had one as cool as that one.

We were launching Estes rockets back in 1964 in High School.
If you want a REAL shocker, look up Estes Invader. It flew up like a rocket, ejected engine then flew like a glider.
