Facts, being poor just makes the mistakes you make harder to overcome. Since usually the resources needed to tackle these issues are not available to you.

Rich guy fucks up.. he has a bad week.
Poor guy fucks up. He might end up homeless

Destiny's take on poverty is probably the most sane one for online politics. What I also like about Destiny's view on poverty is that he acknowledges luck. He said before that he was lucky that he was streaming at the right time. He understands that some poor folks have simply been dealt a bad hand, and it isn't "pull yourself up by the bootstraps"

I grew up rich and made some of the dumbest possible decisions there are. I became a homeless heroin addict and I spent years doing absolutely nothing.
Then... one day... I just got sick of it, I couldn't take it anymore.
I called my parents and they came to get me. They forced me into a program and I got clean.
Most of the people I used to hang with back then are dead. They didn't have the luck I did.

Yeah the simple analogy ive heard is: A car breaking down for a middle class person. Is inconvenient. A car breaking down for a poor person is a disaster.

I completely agree with Destiny here, as someone who grew up poor and then gained more in life as I grew up, I know now that Destiny is a girls name

What I love most about Destiny is he is so empathetic. He genuinely thinks people are good, environment just can corrupt them.
That is a good way to love and appreciate all people, because probably if we lived their lives, we would probably make the same mistakes.

Really puts the phrase, " I'm just two paychecks away from being homeless," into perspective.

Women are very empathic to other people's situations, since Destiny is a woman, she understands poor people very well.

Yeah it’s well explained. Everybody makes bad decisions, poorer people just have smaller margins of error.

This can also apply to people who are "mentally poor". It's one thing to be physically poor and not have resources or safety nets necessary to bounce back, it's another when your mental has no barriers or foundations to prevent reoccurring negativity.

It's why people who are able to physically leave poverty can't stay out or why people who make a lot of money in a short amount of time lose it all.

People often forget that poverty puts a lot of stress on a person which makes them look for some type of relief that will usually lead to some sort of addiction like drugs, alcohol, and sex; and these addictions will make their impverished situation even worse which leads to a downward spiral.

i grew up in a poor enviroment and what he is saying is 100% true. im lucky to have had a massive influence on me from smart, successful people online to know what keeps people from finding and achieving their goals.

It's generational. People from poor backgrounds are the product of generations of families who have been beaten by their own circumstances. And In a lot of respects have given up as a consequence of them.

Hits the nail on the head. If only other political streamers were this reasonable and sane. I didn’t use to like destiny but since being banned from twitch man has been on an uprising arc. Probably the most reasonable left leaning online personality out there, wish there were more like that.

Most of the time it’s not a poor persons fault that they’re poor. It’s also very hard to get out of it. A car breakdown for a fairly well off person is an inconvenience while a car breakdown for a poor person who can barely afford the gas for their $1,400 20 year old Chevy so they can get to work would be a disaster. Limited resources give limited solutions.

Aside from parenting and environment, there's also certain personality traits that can make or unmake you when you're already in a precarious situation from being poor. And a lot of those traits aren't even inherently good or bad, so it really ends up being a "luck of the draw" kind of thing. Interests is also another big factor, which is again somewhat random. You can imagine for example a kid having an interest in astronomy having a massively easier time of it in a rich family than they would in a poor family.

The last statement he made became true to me in my early 20s. I got myself into some real bad legal trouble, being young and dumb. Fortunately I had a REALLY good job making money hand over fist. I got a lawyer spent more money than i care to mention and slithered myself right out of that untouched and with a clean record. My siblings and I grew up poor. They never got really high earning legal jobs. When they got in trouble in their youth it really harmed the trajectory of their lives.
