Johnson & Johnson Set to Face First Case in the UK Over Alleged Cancer-Causing Talc Powder

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) is set to face its first lawsuit in the UK over talcum powder allegedly containing cancer-causing asbestos. A law firm representing 2,000 plaintiffs, mostly women, has given J&J until the end of the year to respond to its legal claims. The firm alleges J&J knowingly misled customers about contamination since the 1970s, continuing sales in the UK until 2022. The action follows similar US legal battles, where J&J offered $8 billion to settle cases and $700 million fine earlier this year. J&J denies wrongdoing, cites tests showing no asbestos contamination. Responsibility for UK claims has shifted to Kenvue, J&J’s former consumer-health division.
