2018年3月28日，福建龙岩市长汀县南山镇，数千民众在县政府门前示威，抗议政府无视民意，将在长汀南山大坑甲建造垃圾焚烧厂。
当局出动大量警力镇压，向民众喷辣椒水，期间双方发生冲突，多人被警打伤和被捕。
由于选址位置离在集镇附近，距离人口居住区最近的才1.87公里，而垃圾焚烧会常年排放污染物，不仅破坏生态环境，还严重影响人体健康，邻近村民已连续十天集会抗议。
村民声称，为了保护家乡的环境和了子孙后代的健康问题，他们什么都不怕，一命拼一命，坚决把这个项目赶出南山。
3月30日，当地政府发出通告，终止该项目选址。
