i dont remember the city but in ohio we stopped for coffee and food. 30 minutes max. no snow no ice everything dry. i pull out and less than a 1/2 mile down i was all in the ice and snow and couldnt see 100 feet. and i missed at least 4 exits before i found a place to stop for the night.

No you don't just pull over and call it a night because while you're sleeping on the side of the road you run the risk being the idiot who causes a 30 car pile up because there's limited visibility and your truck starts a chain reaction of people slowing down and hitting their brakes and it only takes one person to hit the brakes too hard and start sliding...all because you didn't want to get out and chain up...and even if you don't cause an accident you run the risk of waking up to two feet of snow and now you're stuck.
