I noticed that 143 is adjacent to 144, which is 12^2. So I just started with 11 and 13, which bracket 12. But what I like is that this video pointed out that -11 and -13 also work. It reminds me to not stop solving at the first sign of a solution.

You can also make the odd numbers be (2n-1) and (2n+1), this way you get a simpler equation in the process

I got it but I believe there was a step skipped when he got n-11 and n+13. I got every step before that and every step after that but I didn't get the step in between

The solution you presented is unnecessary. To factor it, you are looking for two numbers that multiply to 143 and add to 2. You could have done that right away looking for two numbers that multiply to 143 and have a difference of 2. The answer is 11 and 13 and -11 and -13.
