Donkey Kong... the Lost Level?

If you've never played the original arcade version of Nintendo's 1981 classic Donkey Kong, you might think the game only has 3 different levels. Most of the home ports skipped the Cement Factory stage (aka the Pie Factory). And even in the arcade, you have to work a bit to make it to the rarely-seen fourth level. Let's check it out together!

When I was a kid, our local pizza place had a "Crazy Kong" arcade cabinet, the Nintendo licensed alternate version of the game manufactured by Falcon. It has some weird variations to it of both sound and graphics, but the cement factory appears much sooner in the game. Otherwise, I might've never seen it or known about it until much later in life.

This is NOT a lost level. Its always been in the original 1981 Donkey Kong game.

It's not lost! Anyone who's ever actually played DK in any serious capacity has been to the pie factory.

If you stack all the stages on top of each other they build a sky scraper.

Oh yeah! I know I'm going to have a decent game when I get to the cement stage. From there it's all butter.

Fun fact: Nintendo Of Europe didn’t forgot about the cement factory. How? In 2011, DK NES was on the virtual console on the Wii, and if you play DK NES on your Wii (MAKE SURE ITS PAL, NOT NTSC) guess what? The cement factory has returned!

My ATARI 800XL in the mid-80s had all 4 levels…arcade perfect…including The Pie Factory.

Such a shame no home port, even the NES version, has the second level.

Only exception is Donkey Kong 64, which has the original arcade release.

I played this game for years I'm surprised no one has revised this game!! I know there's Donkey Kong Junior 2 but that's not the same

There is a version of the NES that has the second level known as Donkey Kong Original Edition, despite it not having everything from the original game, it was still okay in my opinion

You can thank Donkey Kong 64 for making anyone who wanted to beat that game play and beat the original Donkey Kong

DK64 introduced me the pie level or cement factory before I played the NES version and the actual arcade game
