You can in fact dislike a movie/show/story without turning it into a political argument.
Also, Patricia Taxxon has a great video on why the "forced diversity" argument is bullshit and most of the time people are just angry at bad writing.

You forgot to mention the Harley Quinn show. Like, people were so confused that Harley Quinn could just beat major batman villains consistently, as though she wasn't clearly established to be on their level. Like, her first major introduction to comics had batman claiming she was a better villain than joker, and in the Harley Quinn show itself she'd already killed joker and defeated batman by the time this happened.
And on top of that, most of the villains didn't even lose due to her, and instead were beaten like batgirl, or a died in fire, or did a heroic sacrifice, or were just arrested by commissioner gordon without Harley even being in the room. The only villain she got to kill was the penguin, and he has no powers yet still managed to trap her in ice for 2 months before doing it.

Personally, I just use the term "woke" to refer to media that's insincere about being progressive and that's only goal is making money(like the live action Mulan) but I guess incels do indeed use this term to refer to anything that's slightly more left leaning, regardless if it's just a cynical cash grab or not.

One of the most frustrating "woke propaganda" arguments I had was with a coworker about Susie from the Rugrats reboot. He thought it was "woke" that she was now the same age as the babies, but not when the original Rugrats had her be smarter and more talented than Angelica.

They're lying, Toph would ABSOLUTELY BE TORN APPART if she was made today. Hell ATLA would be torn appart at episode one merely due to Katara lecturing Sokka for him being a sexist asshole.
They would 100% complain about how the female characters keep "Emasculating" their male counterparts. They would make an uproar due to the dynamic of Zuko being abused by Azula, and being frequently portrayed as stronger and more talented than him. Hell, they would complain over the fact that it wasn't Zuko, but KATARA who finally put her down.
They would 100% tear ATLA appart due to being "Woke".

I'm a progressivist as well, Gus. However, I truly believe that Prey and Midsommar had some very serious writing flaws, not touching the realm of "MUH WOKE PROPAGANDA". Korra was "meh" for me and I never watched She-Ra, so I can't talk about those in good faith.
However, I recognize you are a professional writer, and I am not, so I would like to humbly ask you, what is it that appeals about those two projects to you? Because to me, they were both pretty stupid.

I just want to say that something I noticed is that a lot of people that complain about Midsommar being 'woke' also just seem to not like that type of movie?
They look at the female lead's emotional and mental struggle and just go 'she's unrelatable and I don't connect with her'
They see characters making dumb choices which are each supported by character flaws and in story justifications and just say the characters are stupid
They see all the metaphor and meaning woven into the various elements of the film such as the cult and then say its pretentious because they don't understand it.
Not all people that react the way I describe call the movie woke but they all seem to instinctively call a movie garbage when its just something they don't enjoy or can't enjoy. It's just so weird to see people so vehemently call something like that bad when everything they say they don't like is very clearly what others DO like.
