His body language changes from casual enthusiasm to anxiously biting into the Pop Tart as if he hadn't eaten in weeks and then being overwhelmed with emotion, which tells me it isn't just Paul having an everyday snack. He mentioned it being "difficult" for him to eat sweets, which suggests he may be going against doctors orders just to try something he enjoyed one more time, or maybe his longing for a pleasure he used to take for granted outweighed any discomfort he may experience as a result of it.
